Much preparation goes into the event of birth during pregnancy, with little preparation is provided for what comes next. The time that follows can be as exhausting and overwhelming, as it can be exciting and rewarding – a time of negotiating many physical, emotional, and relationship changes while learning how to be a mother. The goal of this workshop is to help expecting and new mothers nurture themselves, their families and their communities during this time through a versatile range meditation practices.
This two-hour introductory workshop includes:
- Background and related information regarding the benefits of mindfulness meditation
- Informal mindfulness meditation practices for promoting relaxation and focus: ways to turn everyday moments – breathing, looking, listening, moving, and doing – into a brief meditation
- Building a meditation practice with emphasis on cultivating loving-kindness and compassion towards yourself as a new mother, your growing baby, your partner, and promoting a compassionate community of new parents.
